New Peugeot 308 hybrid: what to expect

Peugeot will present its new 308, the brand’s best-selling compact, in two days. It will mark the entry of the French manufacturer into a new era, in particular with its new logo. But above all, it will finally benefit from hybridization, to fight against other references in its segment.

Peugeot has launched a massive electrification of its range in recent years. The 508 has become a plug-in hybrid with its PSE sports version. As for the SUV 3008, it also received its trendy variation. An already very complete range which will soon be enhanced by the new Peugeot 308 plug-in hybrid.

We now know from the photos of the prototype: this new Peugeot will unveil the brand’s new identity. Recently presented, the new lion logo will be used on all new models of the brand, whether thermal, hybrid or electric.

What characteristics for the 308 hybrid?

Under the hood of the new Peugeot 308, we will find a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This will be similar to the one on board the Peugeot 508 hybrid sedan. The manufacturer was thus able to develop it on the new EMP2 platform of the PSA group.

If the official presentation, scheduled for Thursday, March 18, must validate the technical sheet, the 308 plug-in hybrid should inherit a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder petrol unit associated with an electric motor for a theoretical total power of 225 horsepower. The battery is expected to have a capacity of 13.2 kWh, giving the 308 Hybrid an all-electric range of 50 km, in the WLTP cycle.

In terms of design, we find the classic shape of a compact with a short tailgate at the rear. We have not yet seen it, but it is likely that it sports the black lacquered headband and the three luminous claws, already present on the latest models of the brand.

At the front, the grille takes the signature of recent Peugeot models, and therefore sports the famous new Lion logo. This pays homage to the brand’s past and is also similar to what we had seen on the electric concept E-Legend.

What price for the new Peugeot 308?

Peugeot will obviously rely on a significant sales volume for its 308. In fact, it will feature 100% thermal engines. However, the version plug-in hybrid will certainly be very coveted, and the brand will want to make it its spearhead.

The price of the Peugeot 508 plug-in hybrid starts at 44,490 euros. It is therefore clear that the price of the new Peugeot 308 hybrid will be lower. It is currently difficult to give a precise indication, but we could know its base price during the presentation. Expected this Thursday, March 18, it will allow us to lift the veil on the new lines of the new compact lion, but also to discover all of its engines.
