Thanks to the figures communicated by Avere France, Automobile Propre draws up the list of the most popular electric cars in France.
Marked by two periods of confinement, 2020 will have been a difficult year for the automotive sector. While sales of gasoline and diesel cars collapsed, the electric car held up well. Between the arrival of new models and the constraints linked to the new CO2 regulations, the market jumped 159% compared to 2019. A new record!
Renault hits the nail on the head in December
With more than 20,000 registrations, the month of December marks a new record for electric vehicles in France.
Once again, Renault is the winner. The star model of the French market, the ZOE has accumulated 5,978 registrations over the month. A historic score that allows the city car to take a step ahead of the Volkswagen ID.3 which occupies second place with 2,550 copies sold.
An unexpected third place for the Spring
We weren’t expecting it any time soon. With 1,721 registrations, Dacia’s low-cost electric car made a sensational entry and took third place in the French market.
For the general public, deliveries of the Spring are however not planned before September 2021. So who are the hundreds of copies registered in December intended for? For carsharing, the brand’s press services tell us. Leclerc’s rental service and services such as Zity will be the first to receive the model.
In the microcitadines segment, the Fiat 500e and the Renault Twingo ZE are once again neck and neck. This time, it is the little Italian who wins. With 1,454 registrations, the 500 electric is offered the 4e place and narrowly ahead of the electric Twingo, which has sold 1,353 units.
At PSA, the e-208 remains the most popular electric model in the range. With 1,165 registrations, it finished in 6e place and ahead of the Tesla Model 3, which has sold 878 copies.
The 10 best-selling electric cars in 2020
Over the year, the French electric car market passed the 100,000 registrations mark for the first time.
Representing more than 30% of the market, the Renault ended the year with more than 37,000 registrations. Far behind, the Peugeot e-208 failed to win. Accumulating some 16,000 registrations, it has sold half as much as its diamond rival.
The Tesla Model 3 closes the podium with 6,477 units sold. Then comes the Korean duo Hyundai Kona / Kia e-Niro which has respectively 5,156 and 5,089 registrations.
Arriving late on the French market, the Volkswagen ID.3 ended the year with just over 5,000 registrations. If it maintains the excellent results of the month of December, the German compact has every chance of reaching the top 3 in 2021.
