Is the new Tesla Model 3 faster than the previous version? Answer in this new comparison which hides many surprises.
For its 2021 vintage, the Tesla Model 3 has received numerous cosmetic, technical and software updates. However, the mechanics have not changed: in its Performance version, the electric station wagon retains the same technical sheet. Which should translate into similar performance. In theory.
As indicated by Carwow at the origin of this comparison, the two Tesla Model 3 Performance models have a power of 463 hp for 660 Nm of torque. The new generation is a little lighter, with barely 3 kg less on the scale (1,847 kg against 1,844 kg). That is to say a tiny difference which does not affect performance.
The difference between the two Tesla Model 3 Performance? The tires !
In practice, the older generation of Tesla Model 3 Performance always takes the lead over the new one from the get-go, with a more immediate take-off. And this whatever its position on the track, which can have an influence. But the Tesla Model 3 2021 no longer lets itself go during the recovery exercises. It takes a very slight advantage at lower speeds before stabilizing with a load that seems similar between the two cars. In terms of braking, no change, except for a very slight advantage for the previous generation.
On the other hand, if the Tesla Model 3 Performance are similar, they do not have the same tires. The old version takes on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S while the new generation is based on Pirelli P Zero. The Clermont tires, which showed more grip on wet roads, are therefore at the origin of this performance gap, although it is minimal at the finish line.
