CH: The numbers of newcomers

Several new faces joined the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday as the National Hockey League free agent market opened, and Cédric Paquette, David Savard, Mike Hoffman and Chris Wideman have already chosen their number.

Hoffman, with his classic 68, is the one who will carry the most original number among the most recent acquisitions of Marc Bergevin. Indeed, only the defender Yannick Weber had sported the 68 with the CH, between 2009 and 2013.

The number 13 has been worn by several players in recent years, including Max Domi, but Paquette will be the first Quebecer to do so since Alex Tanguay, in 2009.

Savard has his 58 behind his back since his stint in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Moncton Wildcats. This number will belong to him again in Montreal since it was made available with the departure of Noah Juulsen.

As for Wideman, he will wear the most popular number in Habs history, the 20. The defender will be the 50th player to wear it in blue-white-red, the most recent being Cale Fleury.
