Seattle Starbucks workers vote to unionize, tennis star retires, Goldman Sachs CEO to perform at Lollapalooza

Yahoo Finance Live’s Julie Hyman reports trending business headlines, which include Seattle Starbucks workers voting infavor of union representation, Tennis star Ash Barty retiring at 25 years old, and Goldman Sachs CEO David M. Solomon performing at this summer’s Lollapalooza.

JULIE HYMAN: The union jolt for Starbucks workers, baristas in Seattle voted in favor of union representation, joining six other cafes in New York and Arizona. The coffee chain workers will now be represented by Workers United. The votes do still need to be verified by the National Labor Relations Board director. That could take a week. This is the first vote count since Kevin Johnson stepped down and founder Howard Schultz returned as interim CEO.

And it’s game set match for Ash Barty. At 25 years old, the world’s number one woman in tennis, is retiring, after winning the Australian Open title just two months ago. In a video posted to her Instagram, Barty said the moment felt right to walk away.

ASH BARTY: As a person, this is what I want. This is– I want to chase after some other dreams that I’ve always wanted to do and always have that really healthy balance. But I’m really, really excited.

JULIE HYMAN: This is not Barty’s first time stepping back from tennis. She left the tour for almost two years back in 2014 due, in part, to burnout. And the CEO of Goldman Sachs is making his debut at Lollapalooza. David Solomon will perform at the Chicago music festival this summer, alongside acts like Dua Lipa and Doja Cat. I would love to see the backstage and reactions.

The executive performs under the stage name, DJ D-Sol, and he spins on the ones and twos a few times a year. Solomon did face some scrutiny back in 2020. He opened, remember, for the Chainsmokers at a crowded Hamptons charity event during the middle of the COVID pandemic. Solomon says the hobby is something he does just for fun. I just–
