The Paris Council meeting takes place from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 February. New aid for economic, social and cultural players, subsidies for working-class neighborhoods, a new charter for the participatory budget and a debate on the development of the Gare du Nord are on the agenda.
Tributes
The Paris Council begins with tributes to three former Paris advisers who have disappeared in recent weeks: Colette Talmon (RPR), André Llanes (Socialist) and Marielle de Sarnez (Modem). A minute of silence will be observed by elected officials in their memory.
Health crisis: support for economic, social and cultural actors
Several deliberations are considered to support these different sectors:
-
Exceptional compensation for Parisian press kiosks;
-
Food discovery markets: exemption from royalties; markets managed by direct control: exemption from market fees owed by traders;
-
Subsidies (€ 210,500) to the City of Paris Social Action Center (CASVP) and to ten associations for solidarity actions and food aid in Paris.
Aid to working-class neighborhoods
Working-class neighborhoods are one of the city’s priorities. As such, grants to 57 associations are included on the agenda for the financing of 62 projects within the framework of calls for City Policy projects, as well as multi-year agreements of objectives and amendments with 70 associations in working-class neighborhoods.
To note
The executive will submit a wish on the mobilization of the recovery plan for the benefit of working-class neighborhoods. It will directly echo the “call of November 14” of the mayors who demanded the mobilization of 1% of the recovery plan for the benefit of lower-income neighborhoods.
The City and Suburbs network is currently orchestrating a remobilization of the signatory communities through the deposit of vows in the municipal councils.
A new charter for the participatory budget
The new edition of the participatory budget begins on February 4. A new charter is examined on this occasion. As a reminder, since 2014, the year of its establishment, 2,675 Parisian projects have been completed. This year, the share of participation will be even higher with 25% of the investment budget reserved for citizen participation.
Debate on the development project of the Gare du Nord
Elected officials are debating this major transformation project on Wednesday’s busiest station in Europe: Gare du Nord. Last November, the City of Paris, SNCF, SNCF Gares & Connexions and SA Gare du Nord 2024 signed a protocol confirming the City’s support for the renovation and transformation project of the Gare du Nord. This agreement paves the way for its modernization to make it more welcoming for travelers, more open to Parisians, more ecological and safer.
