With LiDAR technology and powerful software, this new high-end electric car will attack the Tesla Model 3 in China.
Xpeng is one of these new Chinese brands specializing in electricity. After the G3 SUV and the large P7 sedan, the manufacturer announces an even more promising model. Slightly longer than a Tesla Model 3 (4.8 vs 4.7 m), the P5 will tackle the compact sedan segment.
Style question, it’s classic. The lines are clean, the headband optics and the black side sills lighten it all up. Same atmosphere when opening the doors where a huge vertical screen breaks the horizontal dashboard. The P5 pampers its rear passengers, with foldable front seats to lengthen the legs, integrated mini-fridge and a cinema mode with projector!
A homemade Autopilot
Xpeng remains silent on the engine or the batteries, but extends to semi-autonomous driving. According to him, his system would be “The most efficient in the category”. Better than the Tesla Model 3?
In any case, it is based on technologies developed in-house. The vehicle has 32 different sensors : 2 LiDAR, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 4 radars and 13 cameras. The “Xpilot 3.5” system is responsible for processing the data and maneuvering the sedan, but the “Xavier” processor is from Nvidia.
The technical details of the Xpeng P5 will be communicated in the coming days. The presentation is given for April 19, the opening date of the Shanghai Motor Show.
