Breuninger opens first flagship in Hamburg

The Stuttgart fashion retailer Breuninger will open its first flagship store in Hamburg in 2023.

The store in the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier shopping district is also Breuninger’s first in northern Germany, the company announced on Wednesday. The sales area is divided into three floors and has a total of 14,000 square meters. A total of 14 buildings are to be completed on a total area of 419,000 square meters in the district near the Elbphilharmonie concert hall by autumn 2023.

“As the gateway to the world, Hamburg has been at the top of our wish list for some time. Hamburg is a modern, cosmopolitan and dynamic trading city, ”said Breuninger CEO Holger Blecker. “As a retailer, the long-term path always leads to Hamburg.”

Main tenant in Überseequartier

Breuninger is the main tenant in the new quarter in Hamburg’s HafenCity and is thus also expanding the partnership with the shopping center operator Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, who has been responsible for the center and asset management mandates in the two shopping centers Breuningerland Sindelfingen and Breuningerland Ludwigsburg since last year holds.

“With Breuninger, one of the leading multichannel department stores in Europe, we are also bringing a brand to Hamburg that has not yet been represented in the city,” said Andreas Hohlmann, Managing Director Austria & Germany at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield . “Thanks to the flagship store specially developed for the location, the quarter is becoming even more attractive and increasing its national and international appeal.”

E-commerce brings Breuninger to Hamburg

A large clientele of the Breuninger online shop live in and around Hamburg, according to Blecker. The fashion retailer’s growing e-commerce area is now bringing Breuninger physically to the Hanseatic city.

The company is thus continuing its growth strategy. At the end of May it was announced that Breuninger was taking over the Munich fashion retailer Konen, including the Bram branch in Luxembourg. With the new location in Hamburg, the branch network will be expanded to 14 locations.
